DNMCI functions as a national-level professional media council, established in accordance with applicable Indian laws and operational frameworks, and operates in alignment with Government of India policies, regulatory standards, and nationally accepted media ethics guidelines to strengthen the voice, value, and credibility of responsible digital journalism across India and internationally.

DNMCI functions in strict adherence to applicable laws, policies, and regulatory frameworks of the Government of India, including those governing the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, digital media norms, Information Technology and cyber laws, and related rules and regulations applicable to digital news and media services, as amended from time to time.
Headquartered in New Delhi, DNMCI is expanding its nationwide presence through State-level and District-level Nodal Offices, designed to ensure effective coordination, outreach, training, and implementation of structured media initiatives across the country. These offices operate under structured State Committees, comprising experienced professionals from diverse fields such as Media, Film, Fashion, Sports, Arts, Academia, and Public Service, ensuring an inclusive, democratic, and nationally representative leadership framework.
